Developed by Drizti Inc., HPCBOX is an integrated HPC development, automation, and operations platform designed to bring engineering workflow automation and infrastructure operations together in one environment. HPCBOX provides a visual workflow editor for chaining simulation applications, self-service access to HPC clusters through ClusterApp and ConnectApp, cluster creation and management, autoscaling, distributed resource management, monitoring, and an abstraction layer over cloud-provider APIs that supports Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and on-premises data centers. HPCBOX is the integrated execution and operations layer of SimOps, spanning engineering access, workflow automation, resource management, and HPC infrastructure, while full SimOps transformation also requires organizational processes and complementary enterprise platforms.

The SimOps Team distilled a set of the 20 major best practices drawn from over 230 engineering simulation projects, including three of the "Magnificent Seven", and 160 case studies, over the last 12 years. These best practices are grouped under the three 'Golden-Triangle' lenses of Technology, Process, and People, yet intentionally cross-reference one another, because SimOps only succeeds when the three act in concert. Together with the Drizti team, we compared major features and capabilities of HPCBOX with the SimOps best practices.
What HPCBOX enables in practice
-
Build and run complete multi-application simulation pipelines without manual job scripting
-
Give engineers self-service access to clusters, applications, workflows, and monitoring
-
Deploy the same HPC environment on-premises, on Azure, or on Google Cloud without rebuilding tooling
-
Reduce idle infrastructure through cluster resizing and automatic worker scaling
-
Reproduce workflow runs from structured, programmatically accessible workflow definitions
-
Keep all data, accounting, and AI context inside the customer's own tenant
What HPCBOX does not do
While HPCBOX provides a strong foundation for simulation execution and infrastructure operations, full SimOps maturity requires integration with complementary capabilities, including:
-
PLM/PDM and CI/CD systems for end-to-end engineering process integration
-
Enterprise data catalogs, audit lineage, and data-classification frameworks
-
Cost dashboards, forecasting, and chargeback/showback reporting built on HPCBOX accounting data
-
Mature AI/ML, surrogate-modeling, and digital-twin frameworks
-
Sustainability and carbon-accounting tools
HPCBOX is designed to integrate into this broader ecosystem through its CLI, programmatic workflow definitions, and deployment within the customer's own cloud subscription or data center.
Why Drizti HPCBOX is SimOps Compliant
In the following, we check the SimOps compliance of Drizti HPCBOX. HPCBOX is, at its core, an integrated engineering HPC operations and automation platform: it focuses on workflow automation, self-service HPC access, hybrid-cloud deployment, cluster and resource management, autoscaling, and monitoring. Its most distinctive characteristic is that it does not stop at the engineer's workflow; the same platform provides administrators with cluster creation, resizing, scheduler integration, and cloud infrastructure abstraction. With the capabilities below, HPCBOX provides a strong, integrated foundation for organizations implementing SimOps, connecting engineering and infrastructure operations within one environment, while broader governance, workforce, and enterprise-wide strategy capabilities are addressed through complementary organizational processes and platforms. HPCBOX is best understood as an integrated engineering HPC operations backbone within a broader SimOps ecosystem rather than a complete, end-to-end SimOps solution.
1. Simulation-Driven Decision Culture
HPCBOX directly supports the execution environment required for simulation-driven engineering, including application workflows, persistent execution, monitoring, and application chaining. By making simulation execution repeatable and accessible, it lowers the barrier to producing and acting on simulation evidence. Its contribution is primarily operational: the platform enables execution and scalability rather than establishing the organizational culture, governance, or decision frameworks in which simulation evidence is systematically incorporated into engineering decisions.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
2. Shift-Left Simulation
HPCBOX enables engineers to construct and repeatedly execute simulation workflows and supports rapid interaction with HPC resources. Its visual workflow capabilities can facilitate earlier and more frequent simulation across design iterations. The platform itself does not define organizational processes for incorporating simulation into early design stages; true shift-left also depends on upstream methods, model simplification strategies, and design-stage workflows that sit above this platform layer.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
3. End-to-End Workflow Automation
Workflow automation is one of HPCBOX's strongest capabilities and its clearest "SimOps fit." The visual Workflow Editor allows users to create and execute HPC pipelines in which each step represents an application. HPCBOX supports application chaining, parallel execution, conditional branching, iterative loops, inter-step data passing through environment files, workflow properties, and persistent execution that continues even when a GUI or remote desktop session is interrupted. A documented example chains Ansys Fluent and Ansys CFD-Post into a single HPC pipeline. This directly addresses the operational heart of SimOps: repeatability, orchestration, and automation at scale.
SimOps Compliance Level: High
4. Self-Service Simulation Access
HPCBOX provides an integrated user environment through ClusterApp and ConnectApp, enabling engineers to access clusters, applications, workflows, monitoring, and job-control functionality directly. Both graphical and command-line access are available, and workflow creation and execution are in the hands of the user rather than the administrator. This substantially reduces dependence on manual IT intervention for routine HPC activities and closely aligns with democratizing simulation access.
SimOps Compliance Level: High
5. Hybrid / Cloud HPC Strategy
Hybrid and multi-environment HPC is a core architectural capability of HPCBOX. The platform connects to clusters deployed in corporate data centers as well as in Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, and provides an abstraction layer over cloud-provider APIs and HPC services. Its stated goal of reducing cloud-provider lock-in and allowing organizations to migrate between supported providers without rebuilding their HPC tooling is one of the most direct operational mappings to SimOps at scale.
SimOps Compliance Level: High
6. SimOps Center of Excellence Enablement
HPCBOX provides technology that can support a SimOps Center of Excellence through standardized workflows, reusable sample workflows, application integrations, and consistent cluster environments across cloud and on-premises deployments. These capabilities make simulation operations more reproducible and consistent across teams. However, a CoE is fundamentally organizational, spanning standards, templates, reference architectures, training, vendor relationships, and continuous improvement, and HPCBOX does not provide governance structures or CoE operational methodologies. HPCBOX can be a key tool used by a CoE rather than the CoE itself.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
7. Data Governance and Security
HPCBOX provides controlled cluster access with separate administrative and user capabilities, and all data transfer and user/admin operations are conducted over high-encryption channels. Because HPCBOX is deployed directly within the customer's own cloud subscription or data center, the existing security and governance controls of that environment apply automatically: clusters can run in hardened VNETs cut off from the external internet, fine-grained IAM from the customer's cloud identity system extends to cluster nodes and storage, data sovereignty and locality are met by choosing the deployment region, and data at rest is encrypted by default. No data is transferred to Drizti servers. Comprehensive audit lineage and enterprise data classification remain the responsibility of the adopting organization's governance framework.
SimOps Compliance Level: High
8. Simulation Cost Tracking and Optimization
HPCBOX's AutoScaler automatically starts and stops worker nodes according to current jobs, directly reducing unnecessary infrastructure consumption. Job executions are recorded in a central accounting file tagged with user, workflow, CPU cores, GPU use, and license use for commercial applications, available in a flat-file format well suited to analysis in Excel. Resource utilization is visible through built-in monitoring charts, and because HPCBOX runs inside the customer's cloud subscription, cost and monitoring analytics are also available through the customer's existing cloud-native tooling. Cost dashboards, forecasting, and chargeback/showback reporting are realized on top of this accounting data rather than provided natively.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
9. Cross-Functional Collaboration
HPCBOX provides a shared environment in which engineering users and infrastructure administrators interact with the same clusters, workflows, applications, and monitoring, creating a common operational reference point for both sides. This is a strong technical foundation for collaboration between engineering and HPC operations. By design, it is not positioned as an enterprise collaboration process tool and does not provide structured cross-functional cadences, team governance, or knowledge management capabilities.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
10. Version-Controlled Workflows
HPCBOX workflows are stored as .hpcbox JSON documents that describe workflow steps, canvas layout, and execution settings, and these files can be created, edited, or generated programmatically. Each workflow execution creates a run directory containing the execution state and the workflow file. This provides an unusually strong platform-level foundation for reproducible workflow definition and execution. Full enterprise Git-based version-control practices are not built into the platform, but the structured, persistent, and programmatically accessible workflow representation is exactly what such practices require.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
11. End-to-End Data Lifecycle Management
HPCBOX supports inter-step data passing through environment files and maintains workflow execution state in dedicated run directories, providing structured data movement within workflows. Tiered storage can be utilized from Azure or Google Cloud where required, and for in-house data centers HPCBOX can use any file system, so the storage capabilities of the deployment environment are automatically available to the platform. Broader enterprise lifecycle management, including automated archival, deduplication, governed deletion, AI-ready transformation, and enterprise data catalogs, requires complementary technologies.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
12. AI/ML and Digital-Twin Enablement
HPCBOX includes an AI Assistant, MCP Server, and Context Memory, which Drizti marks as experimental because user needs around AI in HPC are still evolving. Several features are already available today: shared context memory across the organization, so that simulation details and encountered errors shared by one user become available to the team through the AI assistant; detailed error analysis of simulations and tagging of results for future discovery; governance controls over what is sent to an LLM; and all shared memory remaining inside the customer's environment rather than on Drizti's servers. The underlying workflow infrastructure can support AI/ML workloads, but mature surrogate modeling, active learning, and digital-twin capabilities remain distinct capabilities that integrate with, rather than reside natively in, HPCBOX.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
13. Performance Benchmarking and Tuning
HPCBOX provides cluster and job monitoring and documents workload-specific configuration guidance for distributed Ansys workloads, including processes-per-node settings for specific CPU architectures and Azure instance types. Drizti performs standard benchmarking whenever new hardware becomes available at a cloud vendor; for example, the same case files and applications have been benchmarked on every generation of HB-series VM instances on Azure. Because benchmarking is highly model dependent, HPCBOX also lets users build benchmarking workflows with their own models and schedule them for periodic execution to detect performance degradation over time. A fully systematic framework with baseline scorecards and automated regression tracking across solver/hardware combinations is not fully demonstrated.
SimOps Compliance Level: High
14. Continuous Feedback Loops
HPCBOX's persistent workflow model, monitoring, workflow history, and reconnect capability support iterative improvement of workflows. Running workflows continue even when a session is interrupted, and users can reconnect to active runs, creating closed-loop visibility into in-progress and completed simulation activity. Structured post-mortems, updated playbooks, templates, and training, the organizational side of the feedback loop, are not embedded in the platform and require broader organizational adoption.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
15. Onboarding and Upskilling
HPCBOX simplifies onboarding through extensive user documentation, getting-started material, sample jobs, application guides, and reusable sample workflows that users can copy and execute, letting new engineers become productive quickly within standardized environments. Formal learning management, role-specific curricula, mentoring, competency tracking, and structured upskilling programs imply managed curricula and tracking that are not part of HPCBOX and would be delivered through complementary enablement programs.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
16. User-Experience Monitoring
HPCBOX provides job-level, workflow-level, and cluster-level monitoring integrated directly into the user environment. Users can monitor and manage workflow runs through both the GUI and the CLI, with monitoring charts giving visibility into resource utilization. This operational monitoring capability is strong and allows engineers to understand simulation progress and resource consumption in real time. Broader UX analytics such as portal latency, satisfaction surveys, or systematic user-experience telemetry are not part of the platform.
SimOps Compliance Level: High
17. License & Hardware Utilization Optimization
HPCBOX provides direct hardware-resource optimization through cluster resizing and AutoScaler functionality, which starts and stops workers according to current workload and eliminates idle infrastructure. The platform supports distributed application execution and application-specific resource configuration, including Ansys RSM settings for different processor configurations, and records license use per job in its central accounting file. This translates into higher effective throughput without proportional increases in infrastructure cost. Comprehensive license-token analytics and license/hardware correlation are not demonstrated.
SimOps Compliance Level: High
18. PLM / CAD / Pipeline Integration
HPCBOX provides application integration and demonstrates integration with engineering applications such as Ansys Fluent, Ansys CFD-Post, and Ansys Workbench. Its programmatically accessible .hpcbox workflow representation and CLI create the foundation for connecting simulation execution into wider engineering toolchains. Full PLM integration, CAD change-triggered simulations, and CI/CD-native automation are not provided out of the box and, as with most platforms, are enterprise-specific integrations built on this foundation.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
19. Sustainability Metrics Tracking
HPCBOX indirectly supports sustainability through autoscaling and automatic worker shutdown, which reduce unnecessary compute cycles and energy consumption. Explicit sustainability metrics such as energy per simulation, carbon-aware scheduling, and renewable-energy-aware workload placement are not core capabilities, since sustainability metrics require dedicated measurement and reporting features. The platform's efficiency gains provide a foundation that complementary reporting tools can build upon.
SimOps Compliance Level: Medium
20. Maturity-Model Progression
HPCBOX provides substantial technology that helps organizations move from isolated, script-driven HPC operations toward standardized, automated, and reproducible workflows spanning engineering and infrastructure operations. It aligns most strongly with the Scale stage of the SimOps Maturity Model and supports the Optimize stage when combined with complementary enterprise data, AI, governance, and analytics platforms. Systematic maturity assessment, KPI benchmarking, and transformation roadmaps are organizational processes rather than native platform capabilities, so HPCBOX supports maturity progression in operations while the broader "compass" requires governance and measurement frameworks outside the software.

The analysis above demonstrates the SimOps compliance of Drizti HPCBOX. HPCBOX reaches a High compliance level across eleven best practices covering the operational and technological core of SimOps: workflow automation, self-service access, hybrid-cloud HPC, data governance and security, cost tracking, version-controlled workflows, data lifecycle, performance benchmarking, user-experience monitoring, license and hardware utilization, and application integration. It delivers Medium compliance across the nine practices that depend primarily on organizational processes, including decision culture, shift-left methods, Center of Excellence, collaboration cadences, feedback loops, onboarding, and maturity management, as well as the emerging AI/ML and sustainability domains where it provides an enabling foundation.
Drizti HPCBOX is positioned as an integrated engineering HPC operations and automation platform whose most distinctive characteristic is the combination of engineering workflow automation and infrastructure operations within one environment. Engineers construct and execute simulation workflows, while infrastructure teams manage the clusters and resources on which those workflows run, all inside the customer's own cloud subscription or data center. This aligns most closely with the SimOps Scale (Walk) maturity stage and contributes to the Optimize (Run) stage when integrated with complementary platforms for PLM, enterprise data management, AI/ML, governance, and analytics. Organizations seeking broader SimOps transformation, including governance, workforce enablement, AI-driven engineering, maturity management, and enterprise-wide simulation strategy, should view HPCBOX as a foundational operational component within a larger SimOps ecosystem rather than as a complete SimOps solution.
